We've often talked about all the silly names that dancers use in clubs. But it seems to me that I've been running into an increasing nuumber of young waitresses, grocery store checkout girls, and sales clerks who are named what we think of as stripper names. Does that mean that eventually all the girls in Walmart will be named Angel and Mercedes etc. while strippers will be using Mary, Judy, Nancy etc? How will we know what's real?

FONDL: I am an old dude, having been going to strip clubs for decades. I agree completely. I am constantly running into real women, in real life with names that sound like stripper names. I ate at a diner recently and the waitress was named Roxy and her trainee was named Prosche. Ugh. Stage names, on the other hand, are starting to fall into three categories: ones that sounds like they could be the girls' REAL names (Debbie, Jan, Lori and Nancy at the last club I visited); names that MUST be fake: Cashmere, Rumor, Sin, Dragon and TryMe (all heard in the last couple of months). The third category is small and decreasing: the classics. You mentioned Angel and Mercedes. I also miss Cinnamon, Harley, Candy and the like. Good stripper names. There is no way I could get a lap dance from a Debbie.

I think they'll go the way of Bond Girl names, which started suggestive, Honey Ryder, but quickly went to the blatant, Pussy Galore and Dr. Goodhead. In a few years they'll all be calling themselves Hotass and Juggs just to stand out.

I'm always amused that all the Jades, Chinas and Asias are black...

My most recent strippers were Magic (with a "c"!), Sweetie, Cinnamon, Destiny, Jamaica, Aspin, China and Treasure. Well, that come to mind, anyway. All pretty strippery.

I haven't noticed the "normal name" trend, though I tend to go to ethnic clubs, that might be why.

O.

I used to think that most strippers used stage names to protect their identity. I am now convinced that most use stage names because they don't think that their real names sound sexy enough. In a line from the movie "Show Girls" The strip club manager tells the new hire dancer, "Penny", that nobody wants to fuck a Penny, Your stage name will be Heather. Which I find odd in that I know a guy that has been married to an ex stripper for over 20 years and her real name is Penny.

I think that about half of my favorite dancers are using fakes names and of those, I probably know half of their real names. I have only had a problem with one real name "Erna". I can see why why she changed it. The other half are using their real names. Which makes it easier for me when talking to one dancer about another. I don't have to remember who is who?

The most interesting new stage name belongs to one of my favorite dancers. Pebbles. If I were casting for a "Flintstones Movie". I would cast her. She would be perfect for the part. MY ATF used her mothers maiden name as a stage name. While sounding kind of manly, It set her apart from the other female names and it was refreshing. She was the most popular dancer in the club. If she would have used her real name , she still would have been the most popular dancer in the club

Worst name ever "Queen" by a black dancer that was last seen at the Oasis Good Time Emporium in Atlanta a while ago.

It's interesting when they pick stage names that are not really sexed up... There was a dancer at the Admiral Theater in Chicago who used the stage name "Seven" or something like that. And there was a dancer who used the name "Erin" at a club in AZ. (I assume that's how she would have spelled it. Never asked.)

On the flip side, I have a sales rep from a national payroll company call me all the time, her name is Tiffany Angel. Every time she calls I think a porn star or stripper is calling me. Hell, it could be a fake name, but it worked. I certainly remember it.

There was once a dancer in a club I went to often, but I only saw her twice. Her name, Star Flower. I asked her real name and she told me her parents were hippies and that was her real name. I lost $20 when she showed me her DL.

ozy-man: Not all Jades are black. I know of 1 in a club in L.A. thats as white as can be, and she's arguably the hottest dancer in a club full of hotties.

Stage names that sound like regular names like Julie, Cathy, Jennifer etc have several sdvantages 1. easier to remember 2. they don't constantly remind one of the fakery aspect of the strip club experience. Names like Sugar, Candy and Essence etc - get very tiresome very quickly. Note (far as i've seen) the Brazillians often seem to use relatively common names - probably because they seem in general to understand the business better than typical avg random american dancers

Yea, the hippie names can be fun to hear sometimes...there are still plenty of them out there too. I think the all-time favorite name that I ever heard a stripper call herself was Avalon...I have no idea what her real name was either. A stripper can tell me her name, and I'll usually forget it a few minutes later. I even have a current "fav" that I frankly have no idea what her name is...lol...

I've known Asian dancers named Jade.

I once knew a woman who was a loan officer in a bank named Nikki Sinn.

I've always assumed all Jades were Asians.

One of my favorites is a Sugar, which is a good thing, because her real name, which I heard the one time at the local convenience store during the period she was out of the business, was Chastity. She was supposedly named after Sonny and Cher's daughter, which has to be seriously ironic.

One name I don't get, which is obviously fake, is Phoenix. Is that supposed to be the mythological bird that rose out of its ashes, or the city in Arizona, which various people have told me is a wasteland, or at the least is not a tourist mecca?

Funny thing is, my 3 favorite dancers ever all went by their real names. I wonder if there's a connection?

Incidently the supposed anonymity provided by stripper names is (or at least used to be) a frequent topic of dicussion on the Pink site. I once made the mistake of pointing out that if they thought using a fake name protected their identy, they were kidding themselves. Needless to say I got slammed - they don't want to hear truth that contradicts their conventional wisdom there. And the truth is that anyone who really wants to know all about some girl can easily find out, I can think of many different ways. And in fact I did so once when a girl challenged me that I couldn't. Actually I found out so much about her that I never told her that I had done so, she would have freaked out. But I was surprised how easy it was.

I like the name "Bubbles". Especially on big dancers. It is so blatantly cartoonish that I actually love it. But that name is really rare these days unfortunately. Anyone ever meet Bubbles?

Seems like 20 years ago every cute young stripper I met was either a Tiffany or a Brittany. Now I encounter (in my retail business) a lot of "normal" girls who have those names. Wonder if some of the father's picked those names from strpper encounters.

Was at a local eating & drinking establishment(OK a bar!)last nite for trivia. In between questions a song was randomly played from a laptop computer. I swear it most of the songs sounded like the stuff you'd hear at a strip club! I asked the trivia hostess if she was using the soundtrack from one of the local strip clubs. If stripper names are becoming common names for a lot of gals you encounter outside strip clubs, is the music far behind?

I also assume that their chosen name also reflects some part of their psychology, in terms how they want to be perceived ("Bubbles" wants to be thought of as bubbly, etc.)

I'm surprised one poster said that around half the ones he knows use their real name, that's unheard of in my experience (they may tell you on the side but to use it on stage? I don't think I've ever encountered that.)

I'm also curious how to find out so much information on one of them so easily, do you have to be a P.I. or something? (or pay out the wazoo?) Just asking…

Years ago C-Mowes in ESL had a dancer named Bubbles. She was older, heavy and not "Bubbly" in any way. When she got over 200 pounds, they made her a bartender. Cranky with the customers, but a dancer told me she always helped the new girls hone their skills performing extras. "She really showed me how to give a guy a hj, so that he got happy faster; then I made more money 'cause I could make more guys happy...faster!" Her name was Tricksie.

hornytoad: I am guessing that you are refering to me. My secrete is being a long time client in my favorite club. They know me and trust me. There isn't much that goes on that I do not know about. Who is married, getting divorced, doing and/or selling drugs, pregnant and by whom, who will do FS OTC, etc. This also gets me special prices ITC for lap dances and I can pass them on to my buddies that visit me there. They admit to giving me special treatment. They appreciate my repeat business and the business that I throw them. I think that I have it made.

From one of my fav web places:

Like musicians and prolific music critics, strippers – excuse me, "performance artists" – often adopt a stage name to spare their families undo shame. But truth in advertising is Lollipop's goal, and some overlooked names may be more appropriate. Here is full disclosure.

Cars
Good stripper names: Mercedes, Sable, Lexus, Sierra, Lotus

Bad stripper names: Explorer, Thing, Outback, Gremlin, Duster, Demon, Titan, Hummer, Willys, Packard, Woodie, Cutlass, Rolls, Escort, Ram, Probe

Colors
Good Stripper names: Magenta, Violet, Lavender, Cyan, Amber

Bad stripper names: Puce, Oyster, Salmon, Burnt Umber, Raw Sienna, Deep Ochre, Goldenrod, Peacock, Cozy Melon, Manly Tan, Nimbus White, Wattle, Van Dyke Brown

Hummer sounds like a damn good name to me.

Hornytoad, in this particualr instance I just kept track of some of the things the girl told me about herself over many visits(about half of which turned out to be true) - girls tell you a lot more than they realize. And I knew the license plate number of her car, which is pretty easy to come by if you ever happen to see her arrive or leave the club. License plate number are pretty easy to trace (until farily recently they were public information in a lot of states) and lead to all sorts of other personal information. And once you have that information, you can easily track down other official documents like birth certificates, marriage licenses, etc. all of which have lots of other information and are a matter of public record. It's all surprisingly easy to do. The truth is that there's no such thing of privacy anymore in our society. If someone knows the license plate number of your car, for example, they can quickly and easitly put together your whole life story. I was amazed and a little frightened how easy it was to do. I'd never do it again.

VERY ENTERTAINING THREAD. Three short comments:

1. Beverly Sills, the famous opera star, started performing with name Bubbles Silverman at age Four. Her birth name was Belle Miriam Silverman.

2. Talked to a dancer who had recently switched from "Payton" to "Jordan". I asked her why. She said that Jordan was her real name, and she just got tired of using a fake name.

3. The other day I was in a BIG Gentleman's Club with dozens of strippers with names like Lexus, Hollywood, Domino, Gigi, etc. I saw a girl sitting quietly on a bench near the bar. Pulled out a $5 bill and said, "Hi - how about a hug - and what is your name?" She said, "Jane". I wasn't quick-witted enough to ask if it was real or fake. But she had a very pleasant "Jane" demeanor - along with lovely face & figure. Within five minutes I gave her another $50, and felt it was the best money I spent all night. Just for pleasant conversation. Moral of the story? NONE. But I really liked Jane.

Horneytoad, just to add to my earlier thoughts - when I was doing a whole lot of clubbing and meeting a lot of different girls, I often kept notes so that I could remember things from one visit to the next, which made comversation easier. So I already had a lot of notes on things this girl had told me on previous visits, which made finding out more about her a whole lot easier. I stopped doing all that when I started hanging with my ATF. Conversation was so easy with her that I didn't need any notes.

MisterGuy - yeah, I have recently started handing out $5 bills occasionally to doormen, bouncers, bartenders, and even strippers. I look it kind of a way of introducing myself. For a stripper-hug, first encounter, would U say $5 was too much or too little?

Hey, I don't blame you for tipping strip club employees in order to be nice and/or to get good service, but I've never heard of paying a stripper for just a hug. I always try and tip the bouncer and the waitstaff though. I'm not big on paying strippers just for their time in a strip club outside of the LD area. I think hugs & handshakes should be free too. :)
