this place is not like it use to be. I went in there on friday the 28th and it was nice all black and some nice bootys on the stage danceing. the VIP upstairs use to be nice and could get a litte action, but not you might get a touch or you might get rubed on. $50 to go to the VIP and then as long as you are tipping the girl you can stay up there with her, like i say don't expect much up there now.
Gentlemen --
Heads-up = This is no longer an active, functioning club. I drove to this location, and what i found was an empty shell of a building. I went inside, and there was nobody around. Clearly, it is a building that is undergoing renovation. The place is a friggin' construction site!
Hopefully, they will complete their construction project, and re-open soon. In the meantime, do not go to Club Volcano, because there is nobody there!! Drive down the road to Charlie's, which is just a short distance away (on Minor Pkwy).
Charlies is off the beaten path on the west side of Birmingham. The place has a for sale sign on the door.
After a couple of drinks I can see why this place is for sale. Its run down in need of repair. The bathroom has a bad smell of urine and the fixtures are nasty.
The girls are not any better. Not a single dancer would be rated more than a four.
A very small crowd made the few dancers they had be very pushy by offering table dancers. Needless to say we refused all offers.
The rumor was the place was already sold and the new owners promise to bring it up to date and will offer limo rides by the hour with the girl of your choice. That sounded familier to the old Platinum club in Jacksonville, AL.
In summary I would not waste my time here til the new owners inject some sort of life in the place.
The heyday of this club seems to be over. A few years ago you could go into Charlie's on a weekend and not be able to find a place to sit (not even at the bar). Now there are plenty of empty chairs and the quality of the dancers has gone down. And although I am NOT a racist, the club seems to be transitioning to the dark side. The cover charge here is 3 bucks. I've going to Charlie's since 1996, but I am just not that interested in going out there any longer.
Charlie's is more of a local bar feel, as the dancers spend most of their time with the guys that they know. The beer is cold and usually every body is fairly friendly. The stage shows are okay varying girl to girl, but don't waste money on private dances, as there is nothing close to contact. Not a bad place to drink a cold one, shoot some pool, and watch some decent (for the most part) looking women. Being in the Birmingham area, don't expect a whole lot in a titty-bar, because this is probably the most suppressed area in the state.
came home from OK and decided to stop in with a friend, it was ok not the best place that i have been to. The girls are rated from a 4 to maybe and I mean just maybe an 8. But over all the club waas nice we stayed there for about 4 hrs and I must say I enjoyed myself and will return.
Went back to Charlie's on a Friday night. Still a good club with a lot of beutiful, mostly younger women who seemed to be all natural, which is good. The club was nice, but it can get very smoky in there. There were 3 stages that were going almost non stop and sometimes there were more girls dancing on the bar or even the pool table. There generally a very casual and fun type of atmosphere. There were a variety of dances of all shapes and sizes, both white and black. They seemed to have a pretty casual attitude with no pressure to buy a dance. I would definately go back.
This is a fun club with a lot of hot women. The stage dances are really great and table dances can be had for $10, but there is no contact allowed. The club itself is pretty nice, but it close to a bad part of town.
The women are mostly really hot and friendly most with natural breasts. I think this is a really fun place to come. It has a laid back atmoshere to relax and shoot pool with friends and watch some of the really beautiful women.
Went there in a Thursday night couple nice looking girls a 8 and a couple 4s or lower. It was an ok club had a nice time didn't get any table dances but the beer was cold and enjoy relaxing there. I will try them out on a weekend night soon, will let you know if it picks up.
Stopped in at Charlie's about 5pm on a Wed Afternoon. Charlie's is probably better described as a reasonably nice pool hall with a stage and pole. Not very busy but the girls were friendly and the beers cold. About 8 girls working when I visited. I only stayed a couple of hours but will most likely go back when passing that way. Cover was $1. Beers were reasonably priced but I don't recall the exact price.
Several of the dancers are older. A few black girls. A few younger girls. Very few store bought titties here... I was short of time and didn't get a private dance but would probably try one. No private or VIP area that I noticed.
The music appeared to be played from a Juke box but a DJ narrated. The music ranged from mild gangsta rap to Free Bird. There were several miscues on music selections and dancer order, which resulted in a minor train wreck of drama and emotions.
All in all worth a buck to get in and will return when passing thru B'ham again.

I stopped in at Charlie's recently, during a business trip to Boringham, Alabama. To get there, get off I-20 at exit 120, and go north on Ensley for a couple miles. Take a right on Minor Pkwy (which is County Road 65). You will see Charlie's on your right.
Compared to Furnace and Sammy's, this place is very "blue collar." But, that being said, Charlie's has some good points:
- cover charge is only 1 dollar (in fact, on Monday nite - no cover at all!)
- you can buy a bucket of 5 "pony" beers for $6
- lap dance at your table is only $10
Here are the negative points:
- most of the girls are not very pretty (4-7 range)
- there is no back room, or VIP lounge
- no contact is permitted. In fact, I was cautioned for touching a girl's shoulders
The cutest girl at Charlie's is named "Fallon." I spent quite a bit of time talking with her. She is a lesbian from Houston, Texas. I turned on the charm, and did my best to make her want me. She said I have no chance, because I don't have tits or pussy. Oh well, just my luck. The one girl in the entire establishment who really got my juices flowing, turns out to be gay.
Went there this past Friday night. Cover charge was only a $1. Club is pretty run down. One very large square stage in the middle with tables all the way around. The dancers were nothing to write home about. Only one cute dancer out of the 10 to 12 that were there. Some were overweight while others were just scary looking!
The dancers are topless with no contact lap dances. They come around & do a private dance in front of you with no contact. Did not care to ask how much a dance would cost. I would avoid this place in the future!
A friend of mine dragged up to B-ham for a belated B-day dinner and drinks somewhere... we ended leaving Sammy's after 35 minutes.. could not hear anything other than the very annoying DJ and way too loud music.. so we swung by Charlie's and stayed almost 2 hours... they seem to have turned down the volume on the music, now the speakers are all above the central main stage in the lighting and the DJ's amps went from 4 down to 2.
As for the air quality... seems to be a lot better since they removed the ceiling fan filters to an central air system, where they actual seem to change the filters occassionally. its also seems that they have lowered the prices at the bar as well and are again offering beer buckets...
I hadn't been here in a while & decided to stop by on a weeknight. A little slow when I came by. The girls were average to a little better than average. There was one young brunette there who seemed to be getting most of the attention that night. For the most part, most of the girls were in the 6-7 range. A couple stopped by to chat, & it was kinda nice to hear that Alabama twang when they spoke.
Smoke wasn't too bad that night, mostly because it wasn't that crowded. I'd been there before, and that was my real complaint about the place. Also, gotta be careful getting there as the area is a little questionable.
Air dances only. I think I'd still just stick to Sammy's if you're in the area, although these "less hot" girls were probably nicer....
We went by Charlie's this past Friday evening around seven after spending some time at The Furnace. We stayed about 90 minutes or so, long enough to get a couple of drinks and see the shift change at 8pm. There was only a couple of outstanding girls there, nothing to write home about, so we left and head to The PlayLate. Charlie's is a cool place to go, but it's heyday has passed.
Swung by last night and had a better time than I excepted, the music is still way too loud and the air is still thick as heavy fog with the stench of cheap cigarettes. But the dancer quality seems to have improved over the summer maybe because football season is here and B-ham is "the football capital of the south" as is writen on the facade of the east upper deck @ legion field. But with Bama and Au-barn opening next weekend with big non-confernece games and plenty of fans and media from the left coast coming for the games, its probably a good thing, only if the can keep the talent from leaving, and going to atl or memphis.
Girls are mostly 6 and 7 with the occassional 9. Bring the big dollars if you want attention, otherwise you'll be completely ignored.
Visited late on a day shift, so maybe other times are better, but the selection of dancers left a lot to be desired, both physically and in terms of attitude. Although there was a grand total of only six customers present - fewer than the number of dancers - and I tipped every dance while on stage (even those that didn't exactly float my boat), I never got any more than the cursory run by the table for the "thanks, honey" - no asking if I wanted company, no hug, no kiss on the cheek, no nothing, not even the often dreaded "wanna dance?" It seemed they all wanted to run around the room as fast as they could, thank those they needed to, and take refuge in the dressing room. I stayed one rotation and left.
That may be a bit high for the limits in Alabama. Yes, it is only air-dancing. But this place beats everything else in town.
The atmosphere is relaxed and cheap, extremely smoky though, and I'm a smoker (Hey management, throw in a few ceiling fans, ya cheap bums). Speaking of cheap, they've got a deal on ponies now, $6 for 5 seven ounce beers, not too bad, plus it makes your hands look huge, great for the ego.
Someone referred to a little blonde spinner-chick earlier, definitely hang out with her if you get the chance, she's precious, her name is London. There's a tall brunnette with a great figure named Layla worth seeing. There's also a tall asian girl there now with an amazing figure, sorry did not catch or cannot remember her name, but trust me, you'll know her when you see her.
All-in-all, $1 cover charge, $10 dances, $6 buckets o' ponies. Worth a visit. Now if they'd just add Southern Comfort behind the bar...
I went by Charlie's a week or so ago on a Friday night. This club seems to be going downhill (not as bad as The PlayLate, though). There really weren't that may customers nor were there that many girls, and every girl there was new (at least to me). I remember a time just a few years ago where it was hard to even find a place to sit in Charlie's since it would be packed on the weekends. I'll just have to try it again in a few weeks so see if it is doing any better. For out-of-towners looking for a club to go to this can be a good place to go, just don't have high standards.
Went here with some this evening and all I can say is take an oxygen tank with you if you don't smoke, and don't forget the earplugs since apparently the dj is stone deaf and feels that the world likes hearing him shout into the separate sound system for the dj. I have not bothered getting a lap/private dance in B-ham since 1997, after realising that they are all AIR. And for one who started stripclubbing with The Downer in the NF,Ont. These clubs seem almost a complete waste of time, if it wasn't for my friends that think this club is fun. On the rare occasion it can be but lately it seems to be the SOS, with the occasional new dancer. Normally we just have a few pitchers and shoot a couple of tables of pool, and tip most dancers a couple of dollars. And stay long enough, until I can convince them it time to go eat.
Not a bad spot to enjoy a night out. Table Dances are $10 per song. Some of the girls were very attractive. Especially one bleached blonde about 5' spinner type with "A" cups. Always some type of event happening here. The last night I went they had jell-o wrestling. The girls dont hassle you here which could be bad if your a shy guy. No VIP Area I am aware of. The place is smoky though and my eyes started burning after about 2 hours there.
What is air dancing? At Charlie's we just try to comply with the law! It's a little strict right now. But we promise to be as sexy as we can as soon as we can! We hang out in the dressingroom because we are shy or maybe stupid. All we really know is our manager is getting really bored with us. She says we need to get up or get out! Well that is kinda confusing, Cuz, Girls just wanna have fun! Why get out? Why get up? Shoot! If I thought we could ask a customer if he wanted a little bit of company, then dar'lyn I would surely ask you!!! We ain't nothin but a good time a Charlie's!! Hell I promise that. Y'all just need to be a little more understading. Were doin the best we can. Well maybe, we can do just a little bit better if ya'll want us too!! T & A at Charlie's is what we are all about!!!!!! Well kinda of, We do have feature shows every week! Shit their awesome! I just don't know how they do that stuff, Shoot it's damn incredable! I'm kinda new at Charlie's and I think the shows are hard to come by. Boy , AMAYA, must really work hard! She's really purty too!
Dancers were OK, but the low rating is just because of the overpowering smoke in the place (thicker than other places, such as Sammys). If you can get past that, then you'll probably be OK with the dancers. Got a dance from a young blonde with major tits (sorry, don't remember her name). Airdances only, so don't expect more. This place is somewhat out of the way, so you do have to look for it. Overall, Sammys is probably the better choice if you're in the area.
Checked out Charlie's Friday evening (2 December) around 6pm or so while dayshift was still on. There were six girls: two good-looking black girls, three good-looking brunette white girls, and one fat white girl (there's always one fat one). I talked with several of the girls, but one brunette who calls herself Charisma was, well, anything but charismatic. She was just there to pay bills and had a total lack of interest in showing a good attitude. I mean, the girl should have at least pretended to be interested! Regardless, Charlie's is a cool place to go in the Birmingham area.
looks like all the B-ham clubs are in for rough times with the Dec 1 enforcement of the anti-obscenity law.
Meaning topless dancing will no longer allowed, does that mean pasties, bikini, etc?? ask your local club what their plans are for the new rules.
I and some friends had a whole better time her on the last Saturday of August for Jell-o wrestling, Charlie's style, quite a bit more enjoyible than the normal bar version. The music and Dj were still way too loud. Plus the $9 beer pitchers were warm and flat before you could finish your first 6 oz cup. The table/lap dances still are nuthin' but air. But the $1 cover charge can't be beat, compared to the other clubs in B-ham
Charlie's music is way still too loud - brought on migraine, but it has improved in that the DJ's amps are now separate but they are also way too loud if they turned the volume down they might reattract customers that have gone else, primarily Sammy's and now that the Furnace is open.
The quality of dancers has improved since the last time I was in here, the reason we didn't hit one of the other clubs in town was cost, with the $1 cover and $9 pitchers, it ain't too bad after a ball game.
If you still want a private dance you need to approach the entertainment and make your intentions known to the dancers, because most hang with their sugardaddy's or boyfriends.
$1 cover can't be beat. All the chicks are VERY thankful for a dollar. probably half hot chicks, half in other categories, from fat to strecth marks to more. All are very dunb and live in the surrounding areas, which is about as back country as you can get. A few chicks havedanced at Sammy's, but came back... said Charlie's is more laid back, and they like it that way.
Courtney is a cool one, has a nice MILF look - and has recruited her neices to dance at Charlie's too, how cool is that.
You could, if you wanted, bet in and out of here in an hour spending only $10, and get some nice attention and see some nice young redneck bods in the process.
Was in the neighborhood, so went by to check out late night shift. Was impressed with the dancer rotation -- about six or seven girls, mostly very attractive, pretty hot, some good moves on stage. Unfortunately, they all wanted to sit together at the bar or immediately head back to the dressing room. Was there for more than a complete rotation of the dancers, and one girl came around and thanked the customers for tips. One girl sat with a table full of guys, and the rest took the tips and ignored those of us who gave them. Maybe I'm wrong, but it doesn't seem like a good long range business plan.
I haven't been to Charlies in about a year but was in the neighborhood. Very few changes since the last trip. I went in about 2 in the afternoon Saturday. Club was rather slow - only 6 or 7 guys in place. There were six ladies working and only one of them rated as much as a 6 - a moderately good-looking blond. Two others were 20-30 pounds too heavy. The lone black girl was too skinny and the other two were not worth looking at. Beer prices have gone up $1 but the waitress was nice except she had too many clothes on and they were too loose. No show there!
All-in-all rather disappointing. Think I'll cool this place out for another year.
After a long absence, I went by Charlie's Saturday evening, 26 February 2005. As in the past, there were some hot girls here, not Atlanta hot, but hot. They were hotter than what I saw at the PlayLate a few weeks ago (guess I should write a review for the PlayLate, huh?), but not as a hot as what I would expect to find at Sammy's, with the exception of one slim brunette that SHOULD be working at Sammy's since she had beautiful skin and a nice little hot body. I enjoy Charlie's atmosphere. It's not classy nor is it a dive (I've been to nearly 50 clubs in 10 states and I definitely know what a dive is and Charlie's isn't a dive). I am RockItMale and I approve this club.
The atmosphere @ Charlie's has not changed its just they have gone with one beer supplier and the prices have gone up, which means myself and friends usually head over to Dewerks in Starkville since for us the travel time is about the same either way.
Charlie's may be up in the woods, but it is pretty laid back scene, with the one large stage square stage in the middle of the room. They recently raised the price of a pitcher of beer from $6 to $9. One note the room is usually filled with smoke, and the lighting is so so, and the waitresses are continually cirlcing the room to handle your beverage needs.
And the best way to get the dancers eye is by tipping the girls as they dance, most will swing by and thank they finish their set, and if your interested in a $10 air dance or buying them a $10 drink that would be the time let them know.
This place is a lot of fun if you go up with 6+ friends and take over a table or two, and have a few drinks, shoot some pool, and cut up with a bit and be able to save a bit of cash so you can get something to eat afterwards. Yes Sammy's is more high class, with higher drink prices, more stages, more dancers, and the air dances are twice as much, and you can't hear yourself think over the music.
note-- the website does not work any longer, so you might want to remove the link
in a bad part of town, the place is run down, empty most times, girls are okay, but this is not an 'upscale' gentleman's club. if you don't mind the skankiness, then this venue is alright.
Went into Charlie's about 1 PM just to see if things were different. Surprize!! there were TEN ladies working. Quality ranged from 2-3 up to 7 at best. Same dances as before - lots of walking around and not much imagination on display. One of the ladies (Shelly) joined me at the table and we had a nice couple of hours chatting and touching. Had a table dance and she got within 12 inches! All in all, I had an OK time. This is a good place to go to look at some ladies on parade. If you want a hot dance, go to PlayLate.
I went into Charlie's hoping that things might have changed for the better, but it was the same old same old. Some good looking girls, but they were spending their time with the locals, and didn't waste their time with a stranger. The dances varied from ok to lame, and don't even think about a private dance, you get more air than the Lakers and the Piston put together. I don't know why that I would think that things would ever get better in B'ham.
Went back to Charlie's with great anticipation and -- what a bust. On there side, it was about 1 PM, kind of early. However, they had only three girls working and the best one was a 3 or 4. The others were worse than that. I drank one beer and walked out in the middle of the second dancer's act - if you can call it that. Very disappointing!
It's been about 3 months since I've been able to visit Birmingham so I decided I would take one club a week and update everyone. Started with Charlies. Came in at 12:30 (just after noon) and was the first customer. Five girls working - all new to me. The first two were young and skinny and cold. Number three was a delight!! Just there a few days and a sweet disposition and a BIG smile. Glad to sit with me and hold hands and tell me all about herself. Super nice girl - about an 8. The last two were older and more experienced but, by now, who had time to notice? Still a great club. $1 to get in and $2 NA beer and I had a great hour and spent $20 (don't waste money on a lap dance 'cause it won't be). I'll be back next week to see the sweet girl.
Saturday night seems to be a good night to vist here. They have a $1 cover and some new rule that you can't take in cell phones because someone has been taking pictures with their camera phone. Beer is the best deal when ordered by the pitcher, shots are around 44-6 bucks depending on what you order.
Now for the ladies, there were some very solid 8-9's here on Saturday night with the worst being around a 5. Even the wait staff looks better than any other club in Birmingham. Most of the girls will sit and talk with you without you buying "Ladies Drinks" only beer or shots. The "Air Dances" are still around but what do you evpect in Birmingham. If you want more action go to Huntsville.
Ladies aren't bad, but gotta go through a not-so-nice area to get here... Don't expect anything more than air dances, but still an OK place.... most of the girls here are probably 5-8s and some are nice to talk to as well.
Given a choice, I'd rather Sammy's, but this place isn't too bad either....
I've been to Charlie's twice in about 10 days and couldn't be more pleased. The first time was on a Wednesday at about 5 PM and there were 8 girls dancing. Sat at the bar and met a dancer - Precious - I had seen at another club. She had moved here and said she liked it better. Spent an hour with her so didn't get a really good look at the other ladies except to note all looked pretty good - 5's to 8's. At the bar the NA beer was $2 and her ladies drinks were $4 - Wow! Precious did a really nice lap dance - air really - and I had an inexpensive good time. I visited again yesterday (Friday) in the middle of the afternoon, about 4 PM. There were, again, 8 ladies and they were all 6 - 8 with one 9. Just sat at the bar and drank the $2 beer and tipped the ladies as they danced. Good time altogether and worth the drive from downtown.
